AI TV Commercials IN AN INSTANT

Roles — Director of Product Design, and Product Manager

When the opportunity arose to relocate to Michigan and contribute to the revitalization of Detroit, one of America's most iconic cities, as the Director of Product Design at Waymark Inc. an innovative AI startup focused on revolutionizing the advertising industry that empowers small businesses and media companies to create professional-quality television commercials using AI technology in a matter of seconds, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. The chance to collaborate once again with my former colleague from Stephen Parker, was an exciting bonus.

One of my significant contributions at Waymark was establishing a robust design system. I created a streamlined environment where components, type styles, and icons facilitated the rapid and consistent creation of mockups for potential features. This system significantly accelerated our design process.

Small startup, Big Impact

I manage a small, cross functional functional team of project managers, front and back end developers, QA, and customer support as we build and maintain a product where Small businesses can start with nothing, and end with a commercial worthy of television. We also pattered with Spectrum Reach to make it so those commercials could end up on TV.

When you’re small and scrappy, it means your role is huge and impactful, and that’s the case at Waymark. My responsibilities include designing and maintaining the entire Waymark website, editor, and backend account systems, managing the Waymark Design System, designing user flows in every stage of fidelity, conducting customer research, prototyping, and even getting down and dirty with modern HTML/CSS for key pages on the site.

Checkout Made Simple..r

We wanted to ensure a simple checkout experience while offering customers a range of options. Our checkout flow allowed for multiple subscription choices with different commitment terms, as well as à-la-carte purchasing. We aimed to avoid the complexities of a traditional e-commerce cart, streamlining the process for a seamless user journey. Additionally, we collected feedback through a rolling Net Promoter Score (NPS) assessment to gauge customer satisfaction.

Template chooser

Waymark customers needed a central place to find templates for their business videos. Based on a click area test, I developed and tested a format for filtering and sorting that offers clear options and saves time. General usability principles guided the design choices, emphasizing the use of words over icons. Explore the mobile and desktop experiences below, where filters remain accessible during scrolling.

My Videos

The challenge was categorizing around 11 video options for customers and addressing their confusion about downloading videos.

Conducting a card sort study, I discovered that options with terms like "publish," "download," and "share" naturally grouped together.

To simplify the interface, I focused on three key actions: editing, purchasing, and downloading. I refined the logic for requesting video quality and introduced a streamlined "share" menu.

Explore the screens below to see how I organized and managed the available options. I opted for smart defaults instead of different video quality levels to enhance the user experience.

  1. Share a webpage preview

  2. Share website preview to Facebook

  3. Tweet link to webpage preview

  4. Publish to YouTube

  5. Publish to Instagram

  6. Email standard quality file

  7. Save a copy to drafts

  8. Rename Video

  9. Download Standard Quality

  10. Download TV Quality

  11. Request TV Quality

A Project to Transform the Business

At Waymark, we embarked on an exciting project aimed at revolutionizing template creation. Our team has been hard at work developing a new product that empowers template creators to seamlessly translate Adobe After Effects files into interactive video templates. This breakthrough technology significantly reduces template production time while establishing a strong foundation for the platform's future growth and innovation.
